It was our last day in the loveliest of places. Pine View RV Park was one of the very nicest places We've stayed. Maxwell and I set off for a short walk that morning around the perimeter. We found Pine View trail the day before and took the right fork that simply took us back around to the park entrance. Today we went left. (note to my friends, never go left!)
As it turns out the left fork does go back around to the entrance to the park, if you know about the two gates in the fence. But we ran into some possessive farm dogs that we had forgotten about, which eliminated the most direct path back to the camper, so we were forced to circumnavigate another way.
Fortunately God sent an Angel, in the form of a blond girl with her old black dog Sparky (or something like that), he didn't have much spark left, but they were more familiar with the trail. She informed me about the two gates, and to turn left, but we missed the first gate and found ourselves at the highway.
I thought, oh well, we will just follow the road to the park entrance. But again our efforts were thwarted by a deep canyon, and the highway seemed to take us further away from where we needed to go.
Maxwell was none the wiser, but I was getting nervous, because I knew that we didn't have time to be lost, as Wade wanted to get an early start to reach Riverton, our next destination, and this was the one time I did not take my cell phone. So we had to back track.
Fortunately this time I spotted the little sign: "Please close this gate behind you" A clue. We untied the gate and walked through, and in moments we came across our angel once again passing in the opposite direction. This time she warned us about the cows ahead. Which would normally not be a big deal, but I didn't know how well Maxwell had gotten along with the mama cows the night before. And if he were not on the opposite side of the fence, what might happen. So we cut across the pasture, carefully avoiding cow pies and climbed through the buck fence to arrive back in time to pack up and go.
I didn't tell Wade about our foolish adventure until later that evening.
